It's mid January. Ol' Jacob is willing to bet the farm by now that any good intentions for New Year's resolutions you made while sipping your champagne or blowing your horn have gone the way of the Dodo bird by now. I sympathize with you. It's hard for a man to drop a few stones when Ma Bromwell keeps churning out cakes, pies, cookies and other goodies (all baked with my products, of course!)

If this sounds like you, then take a gander at Woody Guthrie's New Year's resolutions that have been making their way along the inter web for the past few weeks. There's sage advice here that anyone can stick to for the duration of a year--and hopefully beyond. Here's just a smattering of what America's "Dust Bowl Troubadour" resolved to do back in 1943:

    DREAM GOOD
    BE GLAD
    READ LOTS GOOD BOOKS
    LEARN PEOPLE BETTER
    LOVE MAMA
    LOVE PAPA
    LOVE EVERYBODY
    KEEP RANCHO CLEAN
    WASH TEETH IF ANY
    BANK ALL EXTRA MONEY
EAT GOOD - FRUIT - VEGETABLES - MILK

Sounds like ol' Woody is a man after my own heart! Here's another New Year's Rulin' for you: BUY MORE MADE IN USA PRODUCTS. Happy New Year, folks!

  • A Christmas Party With a Punch

    Posted on December 23, 2013

    Via Martha Stewart.

If the idea of serving eggnog at your holiday shindig makes you want to nod off, why not give your party a little punch--as in Christmas punch? This seasonal party beverage seems to not be as popular around most parts these days and we can't imagine why--what could be better than fruit juice with sugar and a little kick of something special?

There are dozens of punch recipes out there ranging from mild and non-alcoholic to spicy ones that are served warm. We prefer this bright pink classic concoction from Martha Stewart made with pomegranate and cranberry juice along with Cointreau and vodka. Just the ticket to liven up a cold night, and a perfect companion for my Classic Tin Cups!

On behalf of everyone at Jacob Bromwell, we'd like to wish our customers and fans a Happy Holiday season!

  • 'Tis the Season for Chestnuts

    Posted on December 6, 2013

When it comes to holiday treats, chestnuts are probably not the first choice that comes to most folks' minds, especially when this is the time of year for cookies, gingerbread houses and candy canes. Yet chestnuts date back to ancient times--they are still favored in the Mediterranean area and parts of Europe, and are always served in Japan as part of the New Year menu. Our Native Americans cultivated and savored the nuts long before Europe started exporting them to the U.S.

Chestnuts are the "nuts" from a tree species. Starchy, creamy and slightly sweet, they provide several nutrients to keep your motor humming including vitamin C, protein, oleic acid, folates and your friend and mine, fiber!

In today's stores you can buy chestnuts in jars or already peeled and roasted, but my favorite way of preparing them is in my Signature Chestnut Roaster. A Jacob Bromwell staple product for many moons now, my contraption lets you evenly cook chestnuts over an open fire or stovetop, and releases moisture through its steam vents, so it turns out evenly roasted, crisp chestnuts every time! And like all of my products, it's still made in the USA and backed by a lifetime guarantee.

So put some Nat King Cole on the turntable and start a new holiday tradition this year. Like Midwest Magazine declared, you'll know the holidays have arrived when you use our Signature Chestnut Roaster!
