If you are familiar with Jacob Bromwell® history you might recall that the company was founded in 1819 as The Bromwell Brush Company by Jacob Bromwell (the person) in Cincinnati, Ohio. That was 204 years ago...so you can imagine our excitement when a customer reached out to us after discovering this Bromwell brush while going through some of his grandparents' belongings. This customer was generous enough to offer the piece for sale to us at a fair price. This brush was most likely used for decades as a fireplace brush or general sweeping brush for the house.
Current CEO, Sean Bandawat, estimates the brush to be around 150-200 years old as The Bromwell Brush Company relocated from Cincinnati, Ohio to Michigan City, Indiana in the early 1900's. If you look closely at the brush you'll see the plate showing that the company was based in Cincinatti, Ohio at the time it was made. When asked why this brush is such a big deal, Mr. Bandawat replied, “These brushes are extremely rare, and this particular example is in excellent original condition. We’re excited to have this important piece of history in our company's private collection of unique and antique Jacob Bromwell historical products.”
When we received this 200 year old brush from the customer, it included a beautiful note and card that the customer had printed. The card reads:
"This Bromwell brush was found in the packed-away belongings I had inherited from my grandparents John and Margaret Glenn. Some careful detective work on the origins of the brush lead me to Sean Bandawat, President of Jacob Bromwell Company, who estimates the brush to be from the mid-1800s. Therefore, the brush likely belonged to my great-grandparents Patrick and Catherine Glenn, who had immigrated to Cincinnati from Ireland in 1865. What a fascinating family heirloom from an amazing company steeped in the history of our hometown!"
